About Young Literati
One part social, one part intellectual and one part philanthropic, Young Literati is a fund raising organization comprised of Angelenos in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s. YL's cultural programs and fundraising events rally young Angelenos around the literary community and the Los Angeles Public Library. We operate like a modern day salon where hosted activities and exchanges serve to inspire curiosities and ignite imaginations.

Young Literati's mission is to:

•

raise money to support the Library Foundation and provide an annual gift to a specially designated branch library

•

raise awareness amongst peer groups that the public library is as relevant & important as ever

•

have fun accomplishing the above goals by meeting and mingling at literary-based events

Fundraising
Young Literati directs its funds through the Foundation to support the library's efforts to expand free access to educational materials, literacy programs, and technology offered at its Central Library and 71 community branches.

Awareness
In addition to philanthropic efforts, the Young Literati hosts four social events a year, complimentary to members, that promote the relevance of the Los Angeles Public Library and all its community offerings. With enlightened discussions and clever formatting, Young Literati events are hosted in a variety of locations throughout Los Angeles. These events showcase a series of guest speakers - authors, screenwriters, politicians, educators, filmmakers, historians, painters, photographers, botanists, and engineers - who share their personal experiences and current creations among attendees in an open forum environment.

On June 2, 2006, at the culmination of Young Literati's first membership year, members presented the Felipe de Neve Branch Library with new computers. The patrons and staff at this Library, which serves one of the densest, most ethnically-diverse populations of the city, created a short video to say "Thank You."
